4. What is the difference between a Realtor® and a Real Estate Agent?

The term REALTOR® is a registered collective membership mark that is reserved exclusively for members of the National Association of Realtors®. The collective marks "REALTORS® and REALTOR®" were registered with the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office on Sept. 13, 1949, and Jan. 10, 1950, respectively. A "real estate agent" is any person that maintains an active real estate license, licensing is generally overseen on the state level by various commissions or state sanctioned licensing boards. Not all real estate agents are Realtors®, however, every real estate agent that we work with has indicated that they are active member of the National Association of Realtors®.
